Development and Implementation of Green Growth Strategies for Kazakhstan

The overall objective of this project of the International Climate Initiative (ICI) was to support countries of Central Asia in developing a comprehensive policy framework for mitigating climate change and assist them to reorient their economic development in a low carbon, climate friendly way focusing on improving energy efficiency in important sectors of the economy and increasing the use of renewable energies.

In order to achieve this complex goal, the project pursued an integrated approach of policy development on the national level (elaboration of a Green Growth Strategy for Kazakhstan based on a CGE model and sectoral NAMAs for the other countries), assessment of GHG emissions baselines and scenarios on national and sectoral levels as well as strengthening capacities for the implementation and monitoring of the developed policies.

The project was carried out in close cooperation with national experts and has provided respective advice to the government of the five Central Asian countries.
