Project Description

Advice to the Kazakh Government about the implications of the oil price drop for the implementation of the Green Growth Strategy for Kazakhstan

Within the frame of the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the BMUB we developed a Green Growth Strategy for Kazakhstan. During the years 2014/2015 there was a drop of the oil price that might influence the implementation of this strategy negatively and make an adaptation of the strategy to these new circumstances necessary. In our study, we assess whether the fundamental requirements for Green Growth in Kazakhstan are still given. The result of our work is a model-based analysis of the impact of the oil price drop on the Kazakh economy and especially its growth potential when implementing the Green Growth Strategy. The analysis was conducted together with Kazakh experts, using a macroeconomic equilibrium model that was developed for the Kazakh economy. Results were discussed and revised on two workshops.
